Best Twitch Music Stream Setup: Microphone, Webcam, & More

Updated: Jan 11, 2023

Music producers like Kenny Beats, Nick Mira, Kaelin Ellis, and more have helped pioneer a producer live streaming movement. Live streaming on Twitch is a great way for music producers to earn extra income and connect with fans (or potential fans) on a more intimate level.

Whether you're showing the "behind-the-scenes" of your beatmaking process or just chatting with viewers, streaming can be a fun and potentially lucrative side hustle for producers. In this guide, I will go over the essential gear you'll need to get the best Twitch music stream setup.

What is the Best Twitch Music Stream Setup?

There are a few pieces of essential gear you'll need to get your live stream up and running, such as a camera, microphone, computer, headphones, and more. While there are many different options for each of these products, this list will focus on the best value for the money so you can get started quickly without breaking the bank.

This list will also focus purely on the hardware you'll need - not the software. If you're interested in learning more about the necessary software for live streaming, check out this article. That said, let's get into our list of the best Twitch music stream setup.

Logitech Brio Webcam
  • Product: Logitech Brio

  • Cost: $149.99

One of the first things you'll want to get your hands on is a nice camera/webcam. It will make your stream look much more official if you have high quality visuals of yourself, so our recommended webcam is the Logitech Brio.

While the Brio is slightly more expensive than other webcam options, the picture quality is the best you can get at this price range (this video shows quality comparisons across various webcams). It also allows you to change the field of view to get a more wide-angle shot or a more close-up shot, and offers a great auto-focus feature as well.

The Brio comes with a mount that allows you to clip it to your computer monitor, but we'd recommend grabbing a flexible desk mount which will make it much easier to get the exact camera setup you want.

It's important to note that while having a nice high-quality camera certainly levels up your stream, if your computer has a built-in webcam and you want to use that instead to save some money when you're just starting out that's a totally viable option. However, if you're streaming long-term a nice crisp camera is pretty much a necessity if you want your stream to look clean and professional.

Blue Yeti USB Microphone
  • Product: Blue Yeti USB Microphone

  • Cost: $128.99

The next item you'll need for your streaming setup is a high-quality microphone that doesn't break the bank, which is why we're recommending the Blue Yeti USB Microphone. This microphone is extremely popular with online creators and it's easy to see why - the sound quality is fantastic for the price range, it comes with its own stand, it connects easily to your computer via USB, and it looks aesthetically pleasing.

The Yeti also has simple control buttons for mute/unmute, volume, and stereo/mono settings, making it easy to make necessary tweaks to your audio for your stream. It will be hard to find a better value for the money than this microphone.

While the Yeti does come with its own mic stand, you may want to consider getting a microphone arm that clamps to your desk in order to clear up some desk space for your computer and/or any other music gear you have in front of you.

beyerdynamic DT 770
  • Product: beyerdynamic DT 770

  • Cost: $149.00

Another important piece of gear to have for your stream is a nice pair of headphones. Since you'll likely be working on music during your stream, it's critical to have studio-quality reference headphones to make sure you're making the best mixing decisions, so for that reason we recommend the beyerdynamic DT 770 Pro headphones.

The accurate and flat sound quality of these headphones combined with the superior comfort of the ear pads make these an amazing value at $149. The only downside of these headphones is, due to the thick cloth material on the ear pads, sometimes your ears/head will get a bit too warm and sweaty during long sessions if you live in a warmer climate area. However, these headphones are some of the best-sellers among the bedroom producer community, and it's easy to see why.

If you're not sold on the beyerdynamic DT 770s, we actually have a full guide going over the 5 best studio headphones - you can check that out here.

SABRENT 10-Port USB 3.0 Hub
  • Product: SABRENT 10-Port USB 3.0 Hub

  • Cost: $44.99

When setting up all the necessary gear for your stream, you'll start to run out of available USB ports very quickly, especially if you're using one of the new Macs. That's why we recommend the SABRENT 10-Port USB Hub to give you all the ports you'll need for all your USB-connected gear.

This hub features 7 USB 3.0 ports and 3 USB charging ports, and also allows you to easily turn on/off the ports individually via the buttons on the right. If you decide to go with this SABRENT USB Hub, it'll likely be the last one you'll ever need.

Apple MacBook Pro M1
  • Product: Apple MacBook Pro M1

  • Cost: $1,899.00

Lastly, you'll need a computer that can handle the rigors of running a live stream while simultaneously running your music production software/DAW. In our opinion, the best value on the market for a computer that can handle all that is the Apple MacBook Pro M1.

The new M1 chips allow these computers to withstand the strain of running large software better than other computers at a similar price point. All the software you'll need to run your stream is also very Mac-friendly, making this a really strong choice for those looking to get started streaming.

We also have a full guide comparing some of the best laptops for music production - all the laptops on that list are also great options for those looking for a great streaming computer.

I hope this guide helps you get the best Twitch music streaming setup possible! While there are lots of other cool products you can add to your arsenal that will take your stream to the next level, these are great products to help you get a solid bare-bones setup from day one.
