5 Best Gifts for Music Producers: Headphones, Hard Drives, & More

Trying to find the best gift for the music producer in your life? Whether it's for Christmas, a birthday, or any other occasion, it might be hard to think of gift ideas related to music production if you aren't a music producer yourself.

That's where I step in - as a music producer myself, I curated a list of items that I would personally love to receive, and wouldn't necessarily think to buy myself. In this guide, I will go over the 5 best gift ideas for music producers that they're sure to enjoy.

What Are the Best Gifts for Music Producers?

One of the toughest things about shopping for a music producer is you may not be sure of what gear they already have, and what gear they currently need for their studio. For that reason, this list is focused on items that will undoubtedly enhance the music production process, but aren't necessarily the essential, day-one items you need to start producing music.

If you're instead looking for more baseline, essential gear ideas, I'd suggest checking out our Bedroom Producer Essentials guide, which will be a helpful resource for you.

With all that out of the way, let's get into our list of the best gifts for music producers.

Samsung SSD External Drive 1 TB

Making music on your personal computer is great - however, music producers start to notice they run out of internal storage pretty quickly when dealing with project files in your DAW, sample libraries, third-party plugins, and much more. An external hard drive helps to mitigate that problem, offloading some of the strain you're putting your computer under when you use it to make music.

This model from Samsung is my personal recommendation due to the 1 TB of storage, the sturdy design, and the brand reputation of a company like Samsung. It's also still relatively affordable at under $100. There are a few cheaper options, but when dealing with sensitive/important files, I think it's worth it to spend a bit more to know your files will be safe.

Zoom H1n Portable Recorder

Most music producers I know tend to incorporate ambient/environmental sounds into their productions to provide a bit more of a realistic texture and depth to the track. With the help of your own personal recorder, you're able to record environmental sounds and textures from your own life and incorporate them into your projects! Not to mention you can also use it to record speech or any other percussive sounds to sample in your music projects.

I've chosen this Zoom H1n Recorder due to the high-quality audio recording capabilities, the simple interface, and the size/portability of the unit. It's also another option that won't break the bank since it comes in under $100.

Beyerdynamic DT 770 Pro

For this one I'd definitely recommend making sure the person you're buying the gift for doesn't already have a pair of studio headphones. However, if they don't, the Beyerdynamic DT 770s are going to be the perfect gift for them. Studio quality headphones are essential for getting an accurate read on how your project really sounds, without the boosting or cutting of any frequencies (which is common in regular consumer headphones).

I'm recommending the DT 770s because of the superior "flat" audio quality, the ridiculous comfort provided by the plush ear pads, and the affordability relative to some of the similar headphone options out there. The DT 770s are also my personal studio headphones that I use every single day, and I love them!

Splice Sounds logo

This one is a bit more of a commitment due to the monthly subscription pricing model, but it will be well worth it for the music producer in your life (just look at it as a gift that keeps on giving). Splice is a website that provides a massive library of high-quality royalty-free samples that you're able to use in your productions. From one-shot percussive elements to melodic loops, it's an endless source of utility and inspiration for any producer.

The $9.99/month Sounds+ subscription gives you 100 credits per month, meaning you'll be able to download 100 samples. The credits also refresh every month, and the unused credits are rolled over to the next month if you don't use all of them. Splice also offers tiers with 200 credits and 500 credits per month with their Creator ($19.99/month) and Creator+ ($29.99/month) plans. I've personally used Splice for many years and consider it one of the most beneficial investments I've made in my music career!

Armocity Music Studio Desk

Making music at home is amazing - but it requires a lot of physical space for your computer, monitor, MIDI keyboards, audio interfaces, etc. It's tough making room for all these items on a normal desk, so having a desk specifically designed for a music studio can make a huge difference as it utilizes multiple levels to allow enough space for all your music gear.

I've chosen this Armocity Studio Desk due to the practical and aesthetic design, the inclusion of power outlets and USB ports on the desk, and the large work surface it provides. It's also an extremely affordable option compared to other similar music studio desks.

I hope this guide helps you come up with a few fun gift ideas for the music producer in your life! Enjoyed this guide? Make sure to check out our Bedroom Producer Essentials Guide or some of our other reviews/buyer's guides.
